Design News | CO2-Based Plastic Nears Production

In that new process, CO2 appears in two places:

First, in a new kind of precursor, polyoxymethylene polycarbonate polyol, to reduce petroleum by 20%. An additional 20% of petroleum is replaced by another chemical incorporating CO2 that’s added to the precursor.

The new manufacturing process has already been proven in the lab. It can be used to make thermoplastic PUs, films, and casting elastomers, used in applications such as automotive interiors, cable sheathing, and sporting goods.
